They have made Lucknow proud and this Women Day let’s cherish their achievements.

1. Pankaj Bhadouria
A household name in India, Pankaj Bhadouria is the winner of first Master Chef India Season 1. Pankaj was a teacher in a reputed school in Lucknow for over 16 years and she left the job to be part of the contest. Winning the show revamped Pankaj’s life and now she serves as a Chef, a TV Host, owns a culinary academy. Her dedication towards her art of cooking is her mantra of success.
2. Ritu Karidhal
An Indian scientist and aerospace engineer working with ISRO, Ritu Karidhal hails from Lucknow. She was a Deputy Operations Director to India’s Mars orbital mission, Mangalyaan and has been referred to as the ‘Rocket Woman’ of India. Ritu completed her graduation from Lucknow University and further completed her higher studies from Indian Institute of Science. Ritu has received The Young Scientist Award in 2007, by then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
3. Shahnaz Husain
An alumnus of La Martiniere Lucknow, Shahnaz Husain is known as Beauty Queen of India. Coming from a conservative family Shahnaz was married at the age of 15, but nothing could stop her from the reaching the heights she had always dreamt of. She created a brand and an international market for Ayurvedic beauty and health care. She started with one herbal clinic and today stands with worldwide chains. Shahnaz has also been awarded Padma Shree for her impeccable work.
4. Vandana Gupta
When it comes to games and sports, we Indian are tend to think of cricketers but there are other sportsperson too who have brought laurels to our nation and one such woman is Vandana Gupta, who hails from Lucknow. Vandana was placed fourth in the Women’s 63 kg weight at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, making India proud.
5. Kanika Kapoor
Kanika Kapoor is one of the most popular singers in Bollywood and hails from Lucknow. Known for her most amazing number ‘Baby Doll’, she did Masters in music from Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow. She was married at an early age of 18 but her marriage did not survive. Kanika then started her career with music video ‘Jugni Ji’, featuring Dr. Zeus and then got a chance for Bollywood playback singing. She won millions of hearts with ‘Baby Doll’ and then there was no looking back.
6. Meena Soni
Meena Soni, an acid attack survivor from Lucknow is not just living her life with utmost dignity despite the pain she went through but also inspiring women from all walks of life to fight against odds and emerge. Meena Soni is a mother of three and was attacked with acid by her own husband, who later committed suicide. She bounced back to life and now works for under trial women at Lucknow Jail, inspiring them for a better tomorrow. She is a proud of the city.
7. Sumona Chakravarti
The bubbly actress from Indian film and television industry needs no introduction. Sumona has completed her schooling from Loreto Convent, Lucknow and started her acting career as a child artist with the movie ‘Mann’. The actress was seen playing cameo in Ranbir Kapoor starrer, ‘Barfi’ and in a popular daily soap ‘Bade Achche Lagte Hain’. But, the credit of her overnight popularity goes to the laughter show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’, which made her a household name.
8. Sanyukta Bhatia
Sanyukta Bhatia is the first woman Mayor of Lucknow elected in 100 years. Uttar Pradesh gave India its first woman governor and chief minister in Sarojini Naidu and Sucheta Kriplani respectively, but the capital city itself never has a woman mayor before the 70 years old, Sanyukta won the elections. A veteran politician from BJP, Sanyukta Bhatia created history in December, 2017 by defeating nearest rival, Samajwadi Party’s Meera Vardhan, by a huge margin of 1,31,356 votes.
9. Asma Hussain
A descendent of Royal Family of Awadh, Asma Hussain is an Indian fashion designer, owner of Asma Hussain Fashion House and founder of Asma Hussain Institute of Fashion Technology (AIFT). She was born in Lucknow and has worked extensively to bring the traditional Lucknowi handicraft like Zardozi, Chikan work, Mukaish, Appliqué to main stream fashion. Her institute is recognized by the Government of India’s National Council for Vocational Training and helping preserve the sartorial legacy of Lucknow.
10. Aditi Sharma
The winner of first season of talent-hunt show called India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj in 2004; Aditi Sharma has moved a long way in showbiz. She has been part of Hindi films like ‘Ladies vs Rickey Bahl’, ‘Mausam’ and ‘Black & White’. Besides she has worked in Telgu and Punjabi movies as well. In 2015 she was seen in Hindi daily soap ‘Ganga’, aired on &TV which was quite a success. Her last Bollywood film was an Indian comedy film ‘Saat Uchakkey’.
