In an attempt to boost the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and keeping in view women health and hygiene the authorities have planned to install Pink public toilets for women in Lucknow.
The Pink public toilets will be jointly installed by District Administration and Nagar Nigam. Exclusively built for women, these toilets will be installed in markets and areas with higher population density.
Additional Municipal Commissioner, PK Srivastava said that the Pink toilets will be different from usual public toilets and will get installed by next financial year.
The toilets will be air-conditioned and will have round-the-clock water supply. It will also have a sanitary napkin dispensing machine and portable incinerators for disposing napkins and tissues.
The toilets will also house a separate area where women can breastfeed their babies. Also, it will be taken care that the toilets are managed by ladies staffers.
In the first phase the authorities have decided to install 40 Pink toilets and the numbers will increase in the next phase. 40 areas have been shortlisted after a survey done by Nagar Nigam officials.
The shortlisted localities include 1090 crossing, Janpath market, Hazratganj crossing, Aminabad, Qaiserbagh, Rajajipuram, Charbagh Bus station, Alambagh, Chandernagar, Ashiana and Old city areas.
This initiative is an outcome of a recent government order, in which municipal corporations and district administrations were instructed to ensure the installation of pink toilets.
The Pink public toilets will be the most modern public toilets to be installed in the city so far. The attempt will definitely take Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to new heights and will be a boon for women who struggle for clean restrooms in public places.
