Lucknow is known for it’s Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb and it has once again proved that this City of Nawabs believes in peace, harmony and unity. In a goodwill gesture the Sunni and Shia clerics of Lucknow have altered the timings of Friday Namaz so that the Hindu community may celebrate Holi smoothly.
The executive committee member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and Imam of the Aishbagh Eidgah Maulana Rashid Farangi Mahali, along with Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi, has decided to change the timings of Friday prayers citing Holi festivities.
The Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad has extended the namaz timing at Asafi (Bada) Imambara by 30 minutes; while the Sunni cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli has requested Muslims to shift Jumah timings by half an-hour this Friday. The mosques situated in areas with diverse population have been specially intimated to shift the timings.
Maulana Khalid Rasheed Faranagi Mahali, was quoted saying that though the administration has issued a notice to play colours till 12 pm but usually people end up continuing the celebration for long, hence keeping in mind the sentiments of Hindu community we have taken a step to alter the timings of Namaz.
On March 2, Friday prayers at Aishbagh Eidgah will be held at 1.45pm as against the regular 12.45 pm. At Asafi mosque, Namaz-e-Jumah for the Shia community will be held at 1 pm instead of regular 12.22 pm, said Jawad.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath has directed police officials to ensure peaceful Holi celebrations in the city.
